Early Years Consultancy and Training

Practitioner training in all aspects of the EYFS (both statutory and learning and development), outdoor play (including Forest School) and continuous provision.

Practitioner appraisal and supervision

Policies and Procedures

Action Planning

Working with and providing safe and effective environments for children under 5

I  am able to offer the following to Early Years settings including day nurseries, preschools and childminders:

Early Years CPD Training

Rebecca is passionate about Early Years, and is keen to share her knowledge and experience in this field with fellow practitioners. As a qualified Early Years Teacher and over 16 years’ experience working in this sector she has developed CPD courses on a wide range of themes which she hopes will be of interest to you. Throughout the year, she provides courses on a variety of subjects for Early Years Practitioners, in the Berkshire and South Oxfordshire areas. All workshops are advertised on her website (www.thenaturenurtureeffect.co.uk). She can also provide in-house and inset training for settings. Learning Walk: Pre-Inspection Support

Helping settings to reflect on practice and plan for improvement. Learning walks can be booked to suit your needs and budget. Unlike a mock inspection, the manager or leader will walk with Rebecca around the setting to observe together the teaching practice, discuss the environment, and evaluate the impact of practice on children. An agreed focus will be set for each walk, which has direct links to the inspection framework. Following the walk Rebecca and the setting leaders will have a de-brief session to discuss and evaluate what has been observed and establish future plans or improvements. This mutual approach enables managers and leaders to share ‘in the moment’ Rebecca's expertise in observation and inspection. Together they will see through a fresh pair of expert eyes what works well and what can be improved. Learning walks are an affordable alternative to a full mock inspection and make a valuable contribution to reflective practice and self-evaluation.

Small setting with under 50 children registered: £80 – 2-3hrs

Large setting with over 50 children registered: £100 – 2-3hrs

Observation of Practice Setting Visit

This support package is intended as advice only and is not a ‘mock’ inspection. It is your responsibility to use the advice provided to reflect on your provision for children. Rebecca can offer this support opportunity, using observations of practice to help you evaluate your provision and reflect on practice within your setting. It is designed to support the role of ongoing self-evaluation and professional reflection in improving outcomes for children

The support package will use a range of observation techniques in order to reflect on:

  • the contribution practitioners make to children’s learning and progress, including any systems for observation, assessment and planning

  • the quality of adults’ interactions with children

  • whether adults motivate children and engage them in activities

  • the skill of practitioners in supporting planned, purposeful play

  • how practitioners support the characteristics of effective learning

  • the documentation to support the teaching and learning.

Verbal feedback at the end of the session as well as a short, written summary highlighting the main strengths and any areas for reflection will be provided.

Self-Evaluation Audit

Helping settings to sustain effective self-evaluation and maintain continuous improvement. Strong and effective self-evaluation remains vital to be awarded a grade of Good or better by Ofsted. Rebecca will provide a thorough check of the Self-evaluation form and associated action and improvement plans. She will provide advice on how to best present your evidence so that it is clear and meaningful for Ofsted and easy for you to update. Rebecca will conduct interviews and make observations to test the accuracy of the SEF in preparation for inspection. A written report with recommendations for improvements can be included if requested.

Large setting with over 50 children registered: £150

Mock Inspection

Helping settings prepare for an Ofsted inspection. This mock inspection includes everything that an inspector will examine at inspection, AND MORE! It is designed to build your confidence and highlight any gaps in your provision. Ofsted inspectors can only state what needs to improve. Rebecca goes beyond that by suggesting how you can make improvements and raise the quality, based on the very best practice she has seen over many years. If necessary, Rebecca will work with you to implement changes and support your journey towards inspection. A typical mock inspection includes: an audit of the SEF, policies and procedures, planning systems, children’s records, observations of the premises and staff interactions with children, joint observations and interviews with management and key staff. A detailed written report is provided to inform your development plans and an optional 3 month review visit is available if required at a small additional cost.
